Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics started functioning in 1984. The MSc in Mathematics Offered by the Department is a two-year course comprising four semesters. During the first three semesters five courses will be Offered in each semester and three courses in the fourth semester. The elective courses can be Offered with the availability of the teachers. In the third semester Reading and Conference of one credit hour has been introduced, while in the fourth semester Comprehensive Oral Examination and Internship/ Practical Training have been added. Further, a dissertation of six credit hours is compulsory in the fourth semester. The main orientation of the programme is toward Applied Math, however, Pure Math plays a key role. In the first two semesters focus is on the core courses, which are all compulsory.
A salient feature of this programme is the induction of papers of Computer Languages and Numerical Analysis for the field of Computational Mathematics. This programme is a balanced blend of theoretical and practical The Department of Mathematics has also launched the programme of MPhil. Degree leading to PhD. Degree from the year 2002. This programme is already being conducted under the Semester System. The Department has a well-equipped Computer Lab endowed with the Internet facility and a Research Centre to have an atmosphere of academic and research activities in the Department.
