Computer Sciences & Information Technology


The Departments of Computer Science & Information Technology (CS & IT) was established in 2001 at Mirpur as a sub-campus of University of AJ&K, Muzaffarabad.

At present the Department of CS & IT, Mirpur is located in the heart of the city in the private building. The department has an excellent learning environment including equipped laboratories with latest P-III and P-IV computers. All computers of the department are connected through Local Area Network and Intranet. The Information Resource Center (IRC) has a highly qualified faculty, Internet facility, digital library most recent books.

The Department of CS & IT developed the curricula of academic programs at various levels to meet the National and International standards as defined by Higher Education Commission (HEC). The curricula include BS (Computer Science) and BS (Information Technology) four-year courses comprising eight semesters. Master of Computer Science (MCS) and Master of Information Technology (MIT) are two-year courses comprising four semesters. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Computer Science and Information Technology are one-year courses comprising two semesters.

The Computer Science & Information Technology department focuses on producing computer scientists and software engineers who are able to explore new dimensions in the computing domain and look for fresh areas in which information technology may be applied. The objective of the studies will be acquiring skills and knowledge to carry out research in computer science and be able to apply the expertise in any new or existing domain of human life.


This department is intending to start a new research degree programs in BS Computer Software Engineering and MS Computer Software Engineering in future. The students of this department participated/competed in different software competitions at national level. This department has been started a new four year degree program in BS Software Engineering since October 2006.


The University/Department also acquires a piece of land for the future plan/development of the department. For this purpose a master plan of the CS&IT building is prepared by the concerned quarter.
