Department of Chemistry
Programs
M. Sc. Program
Two years M. Sc. postgraduate programme under semester
system has been introduced since September 2004. The courses are
distributed on four semesters. In first two semesters, Physical,
Inorganic and Organic Chemistry are basic courses whereas; Bio and
Analytical chemistry are optional courses. First two semesters are
consisted of 17 credit hours each. Third and fourth semesters consist
of 17 credit hours each. For M.Sc. 3rd and 4th semesters, the student
will have to opt for one of the following fields of specialization
namely Physical, Inorganic, Organic, Analytical and Biochemistry.
The students will have to undertake research project carrying 8 credit
hours (4 credit hours per semester) in the field of their specialization.
Eligibility
The eligibility criterion for admission in M.Sc. Chemistry
is; B.Sc. with Chemistry Excluding Geography in at least 2nd division
(45% marks).

Job Opportunities for Graduates
Latest courses are offered in accordance with the recommendations
of HEC. The courses have many plus points. Firstly, having passed
this course, a vast field of opportunities is open to those who are
keen to carry on with their academic pursuits. Students are provided
opportunities to use equipment for laboratory experiments. As a matter
of fact, this department has been feeding many research institutions
like HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi, QAU Islamabad,
University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Punjab University Lahore,
PINSTECH and other research organizations. A number of students graduating
from this university get admission in foreign universities both in
Organic and Inorganic fields besides inland Universities and Institutes.
Secondly, the programme places a great deal of emphasis
on areas related to environmental studies. Another virtue of this
course is that nearly every one on graduating can easily be absorbed
in industrial units. A chemist holding our chemistry degree is in
great demand in all fields of their relevance from soap factory to
pharmaceutical industries. Yet another salient feature of this programme
is the area of Organic Chemistry related with extraction and isolation
of natural products and their structure elucidation. By exploiting
indigenous herbal resources, at through research work on medicinal
plants found in Azad Kashmir has yielded excellent results. Nuclear
Chemistry including Metal Extraction and Determination of precious
and nuclear metals is yet another area, which we take pride in this
relatively modern field of study is a part of the course and those
who wish to specialize in this field will find their thirst satisfied.
