MuzffarAbad (Friday, May 28): All Pakistan Mahfil-e-Mushaira was organized by the university of Azad jammu & Kashmir Muzffarabad at city campus. The moot was presided over by the prominent poet of the sub-continent Zafar Iqbal.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman said living nations always give equal importance to literature and art as to science and technology. He congratulated the Directorate of Students’ Affairs for holding successful Mushaira and said that such functions were of immense importance to polish students' skills. He resolved his commitment to utilize all resources to promote literary culture in the university.
Addressing the gathering, renowned poet Zafar Iqbal congratulated Vice Chancellor and his team for organizing such a mega Mushaira and said this will add another bright chapter in the literary history of the university.
Dr. Sabir Affaqi termed this Mushaira as a grand event of its kind in the history of AJ&K. In his welcome address, Director Students’ Affairs Prof. Siddique Awan briefed the guests about the academic activities of the Students’ Affairs department and said we have revived intramural activities in the university. However, the Mushaira would be conducted on regular basis yearly', he added.

Renowned national poets including Zafar Iqbal, Khalid Masood, Dr. waheed Ahmed, Dr. Tabassam Saddiqui, Shakil Jazib, Dr. Sabir Affaqi, Salim Akhter, Saeed Doshi, Muhammad Hanif, Akhter Raza Saleemii, Ahmed Hussain Mujahid, Ahmed Atta ulla, Majid Mehmood Majid, M. Yamin and many other poets from AJK region and Pakistan presented their poetry.

A delegation of the participants of 9th Mid Career Management Course from the National Institute of Management, headed by Mr. Abdul Sattar, team leader visited AJK University on May 27, 2010. Delegation visited class rooms, laboratories and Resource centers of the university. The delegation was warmly received by Deans and principal officers. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman in his welcome address said only thing which we are lacking in is the quality education which is the only difference between us and technologically advanced countries. He said, “It is only Education which guarantees win over the world.” He urged Govt to invest more on education. Mr. Abdul Sattar, team leader appreciated progress made by the university and acknowledged role of Turkish brethren for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the university. Director Institute of languages, Prof. Dr. Nasim Akhter gave briefing to the delegation. The Vice Chancellor presented shield to the head of the delegation and he present Souvenir to the Vice Chancellor.

Ms. Sharon Mc Donald 2nd Political Secretary of the British High Commission Called on Vice Chancellor AJK University Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman on May 26, 2010 in his office. Matters related to bilateral interest were come under discussion. Mis Sharoon showed her concern for the establishment of Conflict Resolution Centre at the university. The Vice Chancellor apprised her that an MOU has been signed between AJK University and Bredford University for academic linkages. Mr. Nayat Karim, political Officer, British High Commission was also present at the occasion.
AJK Varsity paid rich tributes to late Maj. Gen. Retired Sardar Muhammad Hayat Khan,

Faculty members, students and employees of the AJK University Muzaffarabad paid rich tributes to late Maj. Gen. Retired Sardar Muhammad Hayat Khan, former President AJK during a condolence reference held at city campus of university here at Muzaffarabd on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The reference provided many people an opportunity to speak their heart out to pay homage to a person who was the symbol of development in AJK and founding chancellor of the AJK University.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman, paid glowing tributes to the late Maj. Gen. (R) Sardar Muhammad Hayat Khan, who was the founder of the AJK University for his services to the Kashmiri Nation. Addressing at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor said, “Gen. (R) Hayat was a man of great prudence, a great hero who played an exemplary role not only in the army but also in running the affairs of the government with the smallest size of government machinery ever since in the history of the AJK.” He delivered his services up to the mark and set trends which are to be followed by his successors, he added. Speakers at the occasion said that late Maj. Gen. (R) Muhammad Hayat Khan was an army man who promoted democratic culture in the region as non of others could do in this region.
At the occasion Prof. Siddique Awan, Director Students Affairs, Prof. Munir-ul-Hassan Munir, Director Academics, Mr. Muhammad Saleem, Chief Librarian, Mr. Zawar Hussain Naqvi, Deputy Director Finance, Zafar Iqbal, Public Relations Officer and Mr. Haq Nawaz Mughal, Chief Students Coordinator also paid rich tributes to the departed soul and termed the death of Gen. Hayat Khan as a great national loss. Earlier, Quran Khawani for the Maghfirat of late Maj. Gen. Hayat Khan was held at university mosque in which Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Deans, Directors, Chairmen, Faculty Members, Administrative Officers and a large number of students participated.
