President AJK addresses 7th Convocation of AJK university

Two More full fledged universities to be established in AJK at Rawalakot and Kotli in near future, President AJK 

AJK Government to take urgent measures for the completion of land award process of university campuses at Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot, Raja Zulqarnain Khan 

The University is focusing on promoting research based activities, faculty development and reviving co-curricular activities, Vice Chancellor AJK University 

The President AJ&K/ Chancellor AJK University Raja Zulqarnain Khan has said that in order to ensure the development of our country, we need to invest more in human resource development, as it is the number of people blessed with the quality education who make the difference. The President was speaking at the 7th Convocation of AJK University at Muzaffarabad held on December 21, 2009 where 1800 students of M.A/M.Sc, M.C.S, B.A/ B.Sc, B.Ed, M.Ed, B.Sc/M.Sc. Agriculture, B.Sc Engineering, B.Sc Geology, B.Sc Home Economics, B.B.A, M.B.A, M.Com/M.P.A, M.B.A, M.Phil Geology, M.Phil Botany, Chemistry, B.S.I.T, B.S.Ed, B.Com were awarded the degrees. As many as 42 graduates were awarded gold medals. Raja Zulqarnain Khan congratulated the graduating students and their parents. He said “you have a great future. You have to compete with the rest of the world and earn a position for your country. You must realize this is the world in which success depends on knowledge.” 

He urged the government to establish a medical college in AJ&K in the earliest, so that the facility of medical education may be made available to the talented students of the region. “I would also like to see the up-gradation of Rawalakot and Kotli campuses as independent universities in near future. We should start working in this direction so that we may be able to establish at least two more universities during the next five years,” he added. 

He said, “The PC-Is for the construction of Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot campuses have been approved by the CDWP and the ERRA is in a process of tendering.” He also urged the Govt. to take immediate/urgent measures to complete the process of award of land at Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot so that construction work on this important national project may be started immediately. 

The President / Chancellor expressed his pleasure over the fact that the University has taken various measures to enhance the quality of education, maintain peaceful academic environment at all campuses and that students are involved in academic pursuits with enthusiasm.  He said, “I am happy that the University has revived the co-curricular activities.” He emphasized on providing ample opportunities to   the youth so that their talents may be nurtured. 

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the graduating students and wished them a successful future. While addressing the students he said, “The University is proud of your performance and achievements. I am certain that you will prove to be an asset for our nation and contribute towards the progress of the country by exercising your talent. We hope that you would continue to display the same degree of commitment in the future.” 

While reviewing the performance of the University during the last year, he said, “at present, 26 research projects worth Rs. 81.278 million are being undertaken in different departments of the University. These projects have greatly enhanced the research activities of the respective departments and made available sufficient resources for the training of faculty and students.” “The university is focusing particularly on the promotion of research activities, establishing linkages with foreign universities, co-curricular and intramural activities. 

The Vice Chancellor in his university report informed that “Recently, three projects of the University namely ‘Reconstruction of the Muzaffarabad Campus’ amounting Rs. 4190.911 million, ‘Reconstruction of the Rawalakot Campus’ worth Rs. 1276.343 million and ‘Strengthening of Existing Facilities at Kotli Campus’ amounting Rs. 473.382 million have been approved by the CDWP, Planning Commission of Pakistan. A project of 2 prefabricated hostels; each accommodating 200 female students and the other 200 male students involving 204.629 million for Muzaffarabad and 1 boys hostel accommodating another 200 students amounting Rs. 99.966 million have been approved for Rawalakot. In addition, the University has granted Rs. 4.00 million from its recurring budget to complete a building in Rawalakot to be used for the lectures. PC-IVs of 12 projects have been submitted to the HEC while PC-IVs of another 3 projects are under way. I would also like to report that the University has established a state-of-the-art facility of video conferencing which can connect us anywhere in the world at any time. 

The University has also constructed the long due monument commemorating our shaheed faculty members, students and staff in the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005. “While regarding human Resource Development he stated, “About 32 faculty members of different disciplines have been sent abroad on scholarships for higher studies. Insha Allah on their return with in next two/three years, the quality of the faculty would be further enhanced. About 15 faculty members have completed their doctorate studies in the recent past and an other 27 have completed their M.Phil. studies in the country.
