Economics
Faculty of Home Economics is
the only institution of its kinds in Azad Kashmir. It is situated
in Mirpur a beautiful plateau of Azad Kashmir. The faculty was established
in 1981. The faculty of Home Economics has great potential to expand
in diverse fields/ subject areas, which are of great relevance to
the present day needs of the work market and employment scenario.
The degree offered after four year of integrated study is very broad
based, consisting of subjects like food and nutrition, related arts,
fundamentals of computers, textile/ clothing and design, child psychology,
basic sciences, home management, and quite a few others. To improve
work and achievements, links are being forged with international
institutions focusing on exchange of information and students.
Objectives
The general aim of home economics is to create a community conducive
to the healthy growth and development of all the members of the society/
family/country. Some of the specific objectives kept in view while
planning courses of study are to help students:
To understand and appreciate Islamic values for effective living;
to become better members of the society; to be able to contribute
economically/ socially towards national development.
Accommodation
The hostel is open to all non-local students on the faculty
roll. Because of the limited number of seats available, allotment
is restricted.
Laboratories
We live in the age of science, and it’s essential that students
of today, who will occupy positions of leadership in the twenty first
century shall have the background of modern and forward looking programmes.
For students of Home economics the institute has the following laboratories:
• Bio/Bacteriology
• Applied Art
• Chemistry
• Foods and Nutrition
• Bio-Chemistry
• Textile and Clothing
• Household Physics
Bio/ Bacteriology Lab.
Bio-Bacteriology is a compulsory subject in B.Sc. Home Economics.
It is taught in an investigative and inquiry oriented fashion. Practical
course work accommodative a range of different students and backgrounds.
Students may also focus on particular areas of biology in a well
equipped laboratory under the supervision of a skilled teacher and
a lab assistant.
Nursery Section
To cater the needs of Graduate
students of Home Economics who study the subject of child development,
the faculty has a Nursery section. The children between the age
of 3 to 4 years are enrolled each year, starting from September.
The nursery section is provided with necessary amenities and its
mode of activities is subject to the participation and innovation
of home economics students. It not only facilitates students to
learn and understand the psychoanalytic development of the children
at an early age, but also takes care of the enrolled children vis-a-vis
their socio-economic back ground. The nursery section is provided
with necessary amenities and its mode of activities is subject
to change due to the participation and innovation of Home Economics
students. Students are being taught to learn and understand the
psychoanalytic subject i.e. science, Arts, Health, Nutrition, Textile,
Child psychology, Designing, Architecture and literature. Library
is open during work hours and students can use the books and magazine
and can make copies, as well as borrow books for limited duration.
The students are motivated to
contribute in the Annual Function of Inter Universities.
Co-curricular
activities
Debating Society (Urdu and English)
Students are expected to participate in extra curricular
activities, the most challenging and important being the English
and Urdu Debating Society. The students are motivated to contribute
in the Annual Function of Inter Universities.
Sports
For the development of mind and body of the students sports programmes
are introduced. Student achieve success in different events every
year.
