Islamic Studies

Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS) is the constituent body of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir University. It is situated near Ali Ahmed Shah University College of Engineering & Technology Mirpur AJ&K. Since 1980 it has produced hundreds post graduates who are serving the nation in different capacities. From 2006, the institute is introducing M.Phil Leading to Ph. D. and Multi dimensional scheme of research and training which is under process.

In the amended Syllabus of M.A Islamic Studies Zakat has been inducted in the course of studies. It is to be noted that Zakat serves both a functional and spiritual dimension. As an integral part of Islamic system Zakat effects community development, society and economy.

To establish knowledge based economy, it is essential to introduce the Zakat system in the Muslim states and communities, so that Zakat revenue may be transfered from rich to the poor. If the destitutes are provided with purchasing power and enabled to purchase commodities according to their requirement, the commerce, industry, agriculture and all branches of economic activity may flourish.

By introducing Zakat Education Scheme (ZES) target oriented employment system may be established. The Holy Prophet introduced Zakat System through the Zakat Officers (Amileen), it connotes that it is the Prime Scheme of Employment (PSE) which is the sustainable sunnah for all ages. For introducing Zakat System in a befitting manner, it is essential to revive this sunnah as prescribed Zakat Transformation Channel (ZTC).
