Directorate of Sports has carried –out the following Intercollegiate championshipBadminton
Govt. Post Graduate College Mirpur won the championship whereas University college of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur obtained runner-up position. The event was organized by University college of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur from February 28 to March Ist. 2007. Govt Post Graduate College Mirpur, University college of Administrative Sciences Kotli, University college of Engg.& Tech. Mirpur, Govt. Post Graduate College Bhimber, Govt. Post Graduate College Bagh and Govt. Degree College Islamgardh, participated in the championship.
The closing ceremony of the championship was performed by Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Mughal Dean University College of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur. He awarded the certificates and shields to winner and runner-up teams.
Table Tennis
The event was organized at University college of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur from February 28 to March Ist. 2007, University college of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur, Govt. Post Graduate College Mirpur, University College of Administrative Sciences Kotli and University Main Campus Muzaffarabad participated in the championship. Govt. Post Graduate College Mirpur won the championship while University college of Engg. & Technology Mirpur got runner-up Position.
Football
Govt. Post Graduate College Muzaffarabad hosted the event from March 7-9,2007. The teams from University college of Engg. & Tech. Mirpur, University Main Campus Muzaffarabad, University college of Agriculture Rawalakot, University college of Administrative Sciences Kotli, Govt. Post Graduate College Muzaffarabad and Govt. Post Graduate College Bhimber participated in the championship. Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Khan Vice Chancellor UAJ&K was the chief Guest of the opening ceremony. Prof. Abdul Aziz Qureshi Principal Govt. Post Graduate College Muzaffarabad and senior Professors of the University & Post Graduate College Muzaffarabad were also present. The chief Guest was introduced to the players of the teams. Govt. Post Graduate College Mirpur carried away the winner position. While Govt. Post Graduate College Bhimber secured 2nd position. Prof. Abdul Aziz Qureshi Principal Govt. Post Graduate College Muzaffarabad was the chief guest at the closing ceremony who distributed the certificate and shields to the winner and runner-up position holders.
Volley ball
Volley ball Championship was organized at Govt. Degree College Sehensa Distt. Kotli from Mach 16-17, 2007. The opening Ceremony was performed by Prof. Mohammad Hanif Malik Principal Govt. Degree College Sehensa. He welcomed all the participating teams. Four college viz Govt. Post Graduate College Kotli, University College of Administrative Sciences Kotli, Govt. Degree College Sehensa and University College of Agriculture Rawalakot participated in the championship. Govt. Post Graduate College Islamgradh confirmed his participation but could not turn-up.
Zain-ul-Abedin Director Sports UAJ&K was the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution ceremony . He gave away shields and Sports Merit Certificates to the winner and runner-up position holders.
Intercollegiate Girls Championships
Inter collegiate Girls Athletic, Volleyball, Badminton and Table Tennis Championships were organized at Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Govt. Degree college Mirpur from March 13-15, 2007. Seven Girls institutions viz Girls Degree college Mirpur, Govt. Girls Degree College Kotli, Govt. Girls Degree College Islamagardh, Govt. Girls Degree College Bhimber, Govt. Fatima Jinnah Girls Degree college Muzaffarabad, University Main Campus Muzaffarabad and University College of Home Economics Mirpur participated in the competitions. Muhtarma Naheed Tariq MLA and advisor to Prime Minister Govt. of AJ&K was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Porf. Zahida Perveen Divisional Director Colleges Mirpur Division, Prof. Humera Hina principal of host college alongwith staff members, Ex. Dean Faculty of Arts and the chairperson Deptt. of art and design, Prof.(r) Saleema Atta, Mrs. Shahnaz Nayyer Dean University college of Home Economics Mirpur, Prof. Sardar Sarfraz Ahmed Principal Post Graduate College Mirpur were also present in the ceremony. The girl student players marched infront of the chief guest and pay salute to her. When the chief Guest declared the athletic and sports competitions open the sports squads clapped and showed their regards towards the Guests. Atiyya Tariq a senior athlete of Govt. Girls Degree college Mirpur came forward and took the oath from all the sports women collectively, the following events were contested.
Athletics
The Athletics competition were held in 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 100 x 4 meters relay race, shot put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, High jump and long jump. The first event took place when Shabnam Iqbal got the first position in 100 meters race. Atiyya Tariq and Ayesha Rabail remained 2nd and 3rd position in this event. Fatima Jinnah Girls Degree college Muzaffarabad got the winner position with 33 points. Govt. Degree College Mirpur with 29 points and University College of Home Economies Mirpur with 13 points got 2nd & 3rd positions respectively. Shabnam Iqbal of the Fatima Jinnah Girls Degree college Muzaffarabad was declared the best athlete of the championship with 23 points to her credit.
Volley ball
Volley ball championship was organized by Govt. Girls Degree college Mirpur. Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Girls Degree college Mirpur carried away the winner position. While Fatima Jinnah Post Graduate college Muzaffarabad secured 2nd position.
Badminton
Badminton championship was held at University college of Home Economics Mirpur hall. Mrs. Shamim Raheem Lect. Phy. Education Girls Degree College Mirpur alongwith her senior staff inaugurated the championship.
University College of Home Economics Mirpur won the championship whereas, Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Degree college Mirpur got runner-up position.
Table Tennis
The event was organized at University college of Home Economics Mirpur hall. The Winner position goes to Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Girls Degree college Mirpur, While University Main Campus Muzaffarabad got runner-up position.
Girls Prize Distribution Ceremony
At the end of the Girls Athletic and Sports championships the prize distribution ceremony was held at Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Girls Degree college Mirpur on March 15, 2007. Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed MLA Govt. of Azad Jammu & Kashmir was the chief guest of prize distribution ceremony. Principal post graduate college Mirpur Prof. Sardar Sarfraz Ahmed, Prof. Humera Hina Principal Ghazi Ellahi Bakhsh Girls Degree college Mirpur, Prof. Shahnaz Nayyer Dean University college of Home Economics Mirpur and faculty members of Home Economics college Mirpur and Girls Degree college Mirpur were also present in the ceremony. Besides the Girls competitors a large number of Girls students of both neighbor institutions were present in the function. On this occasion, Zain-ul-Abedin Director Sports UAJ&K, presented report on the sports activities. The Director Sports said that girls competitions are indeed an exciting activity not only for those who indulge in it but also for the “Spectators” The Director Sports told that Vice Chancellor has directed him to provide all the possible sports facilities to the students to create healthy habits in the youth. He informed that he has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the future activities. The University is participating in five boys and three girls events in sports Gala 2007, Which is being organized by Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad from march 28 to 31, 2007 under the aegis of HEC.
The chief guest awarded the shields for winner and runner-up position to the colleges getting Ist/second position in the University Intercollegiate championships for women for the session 2006-2007. The chief guest also awarded the cups to the student athletes those win Ist. 2nd and 3rd positions in each athletic event. Shabnam Iqbal a student of Fatima Jinnah Girls Degree college Muzaffarabad who was declared the best athlete received trophy and a cash prize Rs.1200/= from the chief guest. The chief guest in his address congratulated the girls students and urged them to participate in such healthy activities as the healthy sports activities are very important for the development of a balanced personality. The Chief Guest also awarded cash Prizes to all the position holders. He congratulated the Director Sports and the UAJ&K for conduction such healthy competitions among the institutions of high learning in a benefiting manner. He appreciated the efforts of Director Sports to bring students hidden potential out and arrange all the competitions smoothly and well organized.
HEC’S Sport Gala 2007
The University of AJ&K who is the Champion of previous Sports Gala is going to participate in 3rd Sports Gala events which are being organized by Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad from March 28-31, 2007 under the aegis of Higher Education Commission Islamabad. The UAJ&K will take part Foot ball, Table Tennis, Volley ball, Badminton and Tug of War
Cricket Tournament
A Class wise cricket tournament was held at UCET last week. Students from all the disciplines participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Final year Electrical Engineering and Fifth semester Electrical Engineering. The students of fifth semester Electrical Engineering won the tournament
