The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir/Chancellor UAJ&K, Muzaffarabad appointed Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, Meritorious University Professor as the Vice Chancellor of the University on February 15, 2008. Dr. Habib has vast experience in running the University affairs in various capacities including the Registrar of the University, the Controller of Examinations, the Dean Faculty of Sciences and the Dean Quality Enhancement Cell in addition to being the Chairman Department of Chemistry.
His achievements in academic field are equally brilliant. He was awarded Gold Medal for securing 1st Class 1st position in M.Sc. Chemistry by the University of Karachi. He did his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS, Nishan-i-Imtiaz and Post Doctorate from the Virginia Poly Technic Institute and State University, USA. He has won a number of prestigious and coveted awards including Pakistan Academy of Sciences Award 1999, Best Teacher Award 2005 by the Govt. of Pakistan and University Best Teacher Award 2001. The Government of AJ&K conferred upon him the Independence Day Medal in 2000. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Chemical Society of Pakistan (FCSP) in 2006. Recently, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan, conferred upon him Sitara-i-Imtiaz on August 14,2008 in recongnition of his outstanding achievements in the field of Chemistry.
Dr. Habib has over 60 research publications in reputed international journals. He has presented his research work in several international and national conferences. He has supervised over 100 M.Sc. and M.Phil. students. He has also been supervising Ph.D. students.
His appointment as Vice Chancellor was received by faculty, administrative staff and students with gratitude and enthusiasm. At various forums the Vice Chancellor was assured full cooperation in his endeavors for the betterment of the University and in improving the standard of education. They also thanked the President of AJ&K/Chancellor UAJ&K, Raja Zulqarnain Khan and Prime Minister of Azad Govt. of the State of Jammu and Kashmir, for giving the University a distinguished academician and accomplished administrator.
